Giant Chilli Contest at Malvern Autumn Show 2017 - Get Sowing

Giant Veg has teamed up with the Chilli Growing community to host a national challenge and hopefully the growers will enter the record books at the Malvern Autumn Show on the weekend of the 23rd and 24th September 2017.  The current World Record the heaviest Chilli pepper weighs 0.29 kg (0.63 lb), grown by Edward Curry (USA) at Curry Farms in Pearce, Arizona, United States, and measured on 6 November 2009. The green chili pepper measured 26.03 cm (10.25 in) long and 9.52 cm (3.75 in) wide.

We are working to submit a new record attempt with Guiness World Records on the World's Longest Chilli.

You can Catch the trailer for the contest here:

So many aspects to this challenge and so many varieties to choose from, so were here to help!

Giant Veg and Visit to California

In September 2016, we were invited over to the California to the Rare Seeds Expo in Santa Rosa.  Thanks to Baker Creek Seeds Jere Gettle, we were able to share our passion for Giant Veg growing to our US counterparts.  What an amazing experience.  The pictures below are from the event.  Big thanks to Autopot USA and Blue Lab for the prizes during our talk

Giant Veg and Chelsea Flower Show 2016

We were delighted to supply Tom Smith Plants with Giant Veg at the Chelsea Flower Show 2016.  The Company secured a Silver Guilt Medal at the event.  Pictures from the event are detailed below, including some great pictures with Raymond Blanc and the Chelsea Pensioners

Key facts

  • The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is organised by the Royal Horticultural Society which was founded in 1804.
  • In 1927 there was a campaign to get the RHS to ban foreign exhibits from RHS Chelsea to reduce competition with British firms. The RHS refused saying, ‘horticulture knows nothing of nationality.’
  • In 1932 the rain at the Show was so severe that a summer house display fell to pieces. One very wet year an exhibitor named it ‘The Chelsea Shower Flow’.
  • The Great Pavilion is roughly 11,775 square metres or 2.90 acres, enough room to park 500 London buses.
  • Of the firms that exhibited at the first Show in 1913, three can still be seen at the Show today: McBean’s Orchids, Blackmore & Langdon and Kelways Plants.
  • A cap of 157,000 was placed on the number of visitors to the showground in 1988.
